Ridge run attracts students from across the Yukon

Organizers of the annual Vanier River Ridge Run are deeming this year's event another success with participation from 81 female and 91 male runners from schools throughout the territory.

Organizers of the annual Vanier River Ridge Run are deeming this year's event another success with participation from 81 female and 91 male runners from schools throughout the territory.

"The runners were keen and there was lots of applause and support as each athlete finished,” Janet Clarke, a teacher librarian at Vanier Catholic Secondary School and race organizer, said in a statement this morning. The top three results for each category include:

Girls, seven years and under, novice, three kilometres:

  1. Rimie Cherepak, St. Elias Community School, 30 minutes, 43 seconds;

  2. Brianna Wheeler, Tantalus School, 45:10;

  3. Paris Wheeler, Tantalus School, 1:07:03.

Girls, eight and nine years, atom, three kilometres:

  1. Reena Coyne, Whitehorse Elementary School, 22:49;

  2. Amanda Thomson, Whitehorse Elementary School, 22:52;

  3. Hannah Jirousek, Whitehorse Elementary School, 22:54.

Boys, eight and nine years, atom, three kilometres:

  1. Ted Schulze, Whitehorse Elementary School, 23:58;

  2. Tyler Milton, Whitehorse Elementary School, 24:05;

  3. Lukas Jirousek, Selkirk Elementary School, 24:27.
