As reported in Monday’s edition of the Star, Flatwater North held their fifth annual Yukon Championships regatta Saturday at the Schwatka Lake Day Use Area.

It was a bustling day on the water for paddlers any age, U13-Open, these are the results.

Mason Parry got the day started with a win in the U13 K1 500 metre race. He edged out Lia Hinchey, three minutes, 27 seconds, by 10 seconds to secure the win. Diaz Steele-Lennie came third missing the silver position by one second.

Rogan Parry added to the Parry family trophy case in the Open K1 500 m, finishing in two minutes, 28 seconds. Joel Girouard placed second, just missing first by the nose of his kayak. Stewart Hamilton came third.

Mason Parry once again prevailed in the U13 C1/SUP 500 m. Steele-Lennie came second and Thomas Vollmer third. The Open category of the same class was topped by Anya Lera. Girouard followed and Vincent Menard rounded out the top three.

Ditching the oars for the Hand Paddling 100 m race, entrants, any age, could race in any craft they wished. James McCann, 51 seconds, nabbed the top spot a second ahead of Kaleb Parry. Ben Matchans placed third.

It was a photo finish in the All Ages Whitewater Kayak 100 m, with only four ticks of the clock separating first and third. Steele-Lennie topped the category, McCann and Girouard followed.

Mason Parry raced to his third top finish in the U13 K1 200 m. Vollmer placed second with Hinchey not far behind. Rogan won the Open category of the same race, Girouard and Cole Wilkie-Hobus rounded out the top three.

The U13 C1/SUP 200 m, was taken by, you guessed it, Mason Parry. Jean-Christophe Menard and Steele-Lennie were not far behind. Maeve McManus cruised to the win in the Open division. Anya Lera earned second, and Marin Lewis third.

The Open Marathon C2 500 m was won by Matchans and Girouard. The Paleczny family, Jake, Karen and Alden placed second and Kaleb Parry and McCann came third. The boat used was the large canoe, so appropriate physical distancing could be adhered too.

The Mason Parry, Hinchey pairing proved supreme in the U13 Marathon C2 200m. The duo of Harrison Dolding and Noah Bradford came second and Kuya Wellman-Gagne third. Matchans and Girouard won the Open division. Kaleb Parry and McCann placed second and brothers Vincent and Jean-Christophe Menard came third.

The penultimate race of the day saw parents and kids team up in a Canoe/Kayak/Sup 200 m. Anya and Andy Lera were the top family unit. James and Denise McCann placed second just shy of first and Griff and Dylan Morrison came third.

The final race of the day extended the distance to two-kilometres - paddlers, all ages, could race in a canoe, kayak or SUP. Girouard came out on top, Rogan Parry followed and the tandem of Stewart Hamilton and Jim Bell came third.
