The Polarettes and Polar Tumblers Gymnastic Club is preparing for the start of its recreational gymnastic session, one of three throughout the year.

The rec sessions begin this Saturday for ages 1 1/2 to 13.

The eight-week course will be a beginners' introduction to gymnastics. No experience in necessary for aspiring gymnasts.

"We work with the kids based on their level,” said assistant coach and recreational coordinator Catherine O'Donovan.

The course is designed to introduce kids to the sport, and work on their own skills through the eight weeks that it runs.

Anyone interested in bringing their children, can drop by the Polarettes club, attached to Vanier Catholic Secondary School, or call the club at 668-4794.

The Polarette and Polar Tumblers competitive gymnasts are hard at work at the club as well. The girls and boys are working hard to prepare for the upcoming Arctic Winter Games Trials to be held on Jan. 24. Times for that event are to be announced.

The club is also looking forward to a number of competitions this winter.

The gym also accepts more competitive athletes, but any prospective gymnasts will be subject to a test.

"We will always test anyone who's interested,” said O'Donovan.

The assistant coach said the girls and boys who are in the competitive portion of the club are very busy.

"It's a high level of commitment,” she said.

Gymnasts practice every week day, and on Saturdays at the club.

Anyone interested in doing a test to get involved with the competitive club, should contact the gym to arrange a tryout.
