Reams prevails in ITT championships

Though the field was smaller than expected, the racing was incredibly close, as the top four men in the Expert Class finished within 13 seconds of each other at the Yukon Individual Time Trial Championships Wednesday evening.

Though the field was smaller than expected, the racing was incredibly close, as the top four men in the Expert Class finished within 13 seconds of each other at the Yukon Individual Time Trial Championships Wednesday evening.

Under less than ideal conditions sure there was sun but that wind from the south put the big hurt on everyone on the outleg nine riders in total turned out.

Jesse Reams, just back from the Western Canada Summer Games where he had some outstanding races, topped the field over the 17.5-km course in 24 minutes, 49 seconds.

John Berryman won the men's sport class in 26 minutes, 19 seconds. Kelsey Kabanak, also back from the Western Canada Summer Games, was the fastest female in a time of 30 minutes, 45 seconds.

The next event for the VeloNorth Cycling Club is a road race from Log Cabin to Carcross, about 63 kilometres, on Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Yukon Hill Climb Championships will be Aug. 26.
