A good weekend of learning and racing was had for Ramesh Ferris who was the first ever Yukon skier to take part in the Para Nordic Nationals held this past weekend in Canmore, Alta.

Ferris started sit-skiing in November and this past weekend was the first time he has ever raced.

Participating in two races this weekend, he came first in Sunday's 2.5-kilometre distance in the development category.

Ferris was five minutes back from the overall winner, Russian Sergey Shilov, who will be heading to the Paralympics this month.

Having spent time with top para-nordic athletes and coaches, Ferris is excited to start implementing the advice and tips they had to offer.

"It's essential that Sport and Recreation is accessible for everyone, my participation at the Para-Nordic Nationals is a testament to this,” Ferris said. "Thank you so much to Cross Country Yukon for giving me the opportunity.”
