The Whitehorse cross-country ski team captured 13 medals at the Haywood NorAM World Junior Trials at Whistler Olympic Park in Callaghan Valley, B.C., this past weekend.

The great results over the three days of racing bode well for Yukon skiers heading off to Turkey to represent Canada at the World Junior/U23 championships.

The team will be named by Cross Country Canada in the next day or two, but is expected to include a record number of Yukon athletes.

Check back tomorrow for a recap of the weekend's events.

I was at the ski races at Callaghan Valley Olympic Park this past weekend. It was incredibly exciting to see the young Yukon skiers performing. We seldom get a chance to watch these amazing athletes racing 'outside' Much credit to the Yukon X-Country Ski Club for developing these dedicated and motivated young skiers who are far too modest about their achievements in my opinion. Having watched these kids perform both on and off the track, the tradition of excellence at the ski club is in no danger of being lowered any time soon. Congratulations to all involved and best wishes for great results in Turkey
