Thirteen Polarettes combined for 40 medals at a gymnastics meet held in Juneau last weekend.
The Whitehorse club competed in Level's 1, 2 and 3 in the Alaska Capital for the first time in two years.
Typically, the meet is a chance for the gymnasts to compete Outside for the first time, noted Jenn Ryan, head coach for the Polarettes and Polar Tumblers Gymnastics Club.
"So they were all quite excited to go. Going into a different gym for gymnastics is very different, because the equipment is different, it has a little bit of a different feel, the bars are too high, the bars are too low, the bars are too wide – so just adjusting to that, they all did a fantastic job,” Ryan said.
Those new to Outside competition had some help from some recognizable names who had competed in the B.C. Championships in April and the Kyle Shewfelt Gymnastics Festival in March.
In Juneau, three Yukon gymnasts competed in Level 1A: Kendra Peters, Gracie Ekholm and Nantsana Murphy.
Peters took first on floor and second on both vault and bars for first overall with a score of 47.6.
Ekkhom placed first on vault, third on both bars and floor and fifth on beam for third overall with 46.6 total points.
Murphy finished fourth on each of the events for fourth overall with a total score of 44.9.
Maggie Fekete and Monica Arsenault represented the Yukon in the Level 1B category.
Fekete won first on vault, beam and floor and third on bars for first overall with 45.1 points. Meanwhile, Arsenault placed second on vault and floor, third on beam and fourth on bars for fourth overall with a combined score of 44.7.
Anisa Albisser, Megan Banks and Reena Coyne made up the Yukon contingent vying for top spot in Level 2.
Coyne took first on beam and floor, second on vault and fourth on bars for first overall with 47.45 points.
Banks won came second on floor, third on vault and fourth on bars and beam for fourth overall with 45.3 points.
Albisser placed second on bars and beam, fourth on vault and fifth on floor for 44.7 total points.
The Yukon sent five competitors to compete in Level 3: Mackenzie Davy, Caitlyn Venasse, Alyssa Bunce, Lilyanne Gale and Fayne O'Donovan.
O'Donovan won first on vault and floor and second on beam for first overall with a total score of 48.7.
Gale placed first on bars and beam, second on floor and third on vault for a second place finish with 48.55 points.
Bunce took third overall with 47.2 points after tying for second on the vault, taking second on bars and floor and fifth on beam.
Venasse placed third on floor and beam, fourth on vault and fifth on bars for fourth overall with 46.45.
And Davy tied for second on vault, took third on bars and fourth on beam and floor for fifth overall with a 46.25 score.
Ryan said the small categories suited the competitors.
"Especially for those first-time competitors. Everyone came home with at least a ribbon and a majority of them medaled on one event.
"It's a much more relaxed meet than other competitions. We're learning the competition protocol at this meet.”
Helping teach that protocol were senior Polarettes who attended the Juneau meet in the past and, a week prior to the event, did "pretend judging,” watching the performances and giving tips to boost confidence and raise awareness of competition style, Ryan explained.
The Polarettes and Polar Tumblers will return the hosting favour on June 4, when Juneau gymnasts will attend the Yukon Championships.
