The Yukon Learn Society held its biggest fund-raiser Saturday at Mountain View Golf Course.
The overall total is still being counted, but the Peter Gzowski Invitational raised more than $5,600. In addition to sponsors, and a Friday concert it's believed that the final number will be somewhere between $20,000 to $25,000.
"Given today's economy and circumstances I think we will be doing very well," said John Spicer, the chair of the PGI organizing committee.
He added a lot of business couldn't provide money, but gave in-kind support to help keep the expenses down.
In previous years, the PGI has brought in more than $30,000, however it normally averages around $25,000.
All of the proceeds are donated to the Yukon Learn Society. Last year, the organization purchased a new computer lab for its learning centre in Whitehorse and eight lap tops for the work it does throughout the territory.
"The funds that are raised are really important to us because it helps fill the gaps where other funds aren't available," said Yukon Learn's executive director Debbie Parent. "It really helps us survive year to year."
Individual golfers paid $150 for the day and sponsored teams could pay as much as $1,200 cash for a 'hole' sponsor or $650 is a 'half-hole' sponsor.
There were a total of 29 teams with four players on each one.
In addition to the golf on Saturday, a door prize draw was also done.
This year's PGI featured two special guests, including CBC broadcaster Shelagh Rogers CBC Peter Gzowski's daughter, Alison.
Spicer said it was a great day.
"It was good to have everyone there," he said. "The weather co-operated, it was a wonderful day that way. It was nice and unusual for us to have two special guests, so we were very fortunate in having Alison and Shelagh there together."
