Another sunny Tuesday evening meant another Intersport 5 km run and walk.

On Tuesday night, 35 runners and walkers assembled at the start line on the sidewalk near the main entrance to F.H. Collins High School for another edition of the weekly 5 km race series.

As chief timer Marg White announced the start of the race, the participants were greeted by a temperature in the mid-teens and a brisk southerly wind.

After an absence of two weeks, Sue Bogle re-established her superiority in the event posting the fastest time of all female runners (20:46).

Josianne Markley, the first place female for the past two weeks, pursued Bogle with incredible energy. In the end, she finished 31 seconds behind Bogle (21:17), which gave her a complete lock on second place.

Jen King and Lyndy Dunlop were tied for third and fourth place with a time of 26:45.

The top seeded male runner, Rodney Hulstein, ran a 5:40 minute/mile pace finishing in 17:45. Believe it or not, this was a slower time for Hulstein who usually runs a 5 km in 16 minutes.

In an act of true sportsmanship, Hulstein ran with the ever smiling Scott Westberg pacing him to a season-best time of 17:46.

Third place finisher Robin Urquhart continued to show that he's one of the fastest Tuesday night runners with a time of 19:00.

Fourth place belonged to masters runner Tom Ullyett (19:42) who was pursued throughout the race by the gutsy Fred Zandenot. Running in his first 5 km race of the season, Zandenot finished in fifth place with a magical time of 20:00.

In an unusual move, the walkers split themselves between the 3 km and 5 km routes. The swift Ruth Hall and the determined Tanya Astika opted for the shorter distance completing it in 20:58.

In the 5 km distance, first place went to Rick Griffiths who had no serious challengers finishing in 35:46. He was followed by Maggie Griffiths (38:47) and Doris Dart

Upcoming runs include the Thursday Night Trail Run, which is being held at Grey Mountain Bike Trails.

The trails are 1 km up Grey Mountain Road past the big lookout parking lot area. The start time for the race is at 6:30 p.m.
