On a cloudy, windy evening, 34 orienteers showed up to tackle the courses set on the Mount MacIntyre map Wednesday.

On the two-kilometre novice course, Dylan Vickerman and Jeff Bell finished in 27 minutes and 38 seconds, just edging out Shea Hoffman, who was leading his father Phil in, with a time of 29:11.

Tracy and Jenine Vickerman took a little longer, finishing the course in 55:18. Their time was considerably lengthened by the breaks for picking rasberries.

On the 3.5-km intermediate course, two juniors who represented the Yukon at the Canadian championships in Williams Lake last month were less then a minute apart. Alex Peepre came in at 39:24 while Kendra Murray was close behind in 40:30.

On the 4.5-km advanced course, Juri Peepre managed to finish the course first, with a time of 53:45. This, despite one arm in a sling. Sarah Locke was next with a time of 64:35 and Lars Fossum had a time of 66:38.

The next regular meet is Wednesday, September 7 on the Long Lake Southeast map. The start location is in the hospital parking lot. Watch out for 'Orienteering Week in Canada', coming to the Yukon the week of September 12, with three events and fun for the whole family. For more information, check out www.yukonorienteering.ca.
