Action heated up in the pool at the Canada Summer Games in Regina today, with Yukon swimmers continuing to post some impressive results.
Bronwyn Pasloski recorded a time of 1:16.97 in the women's 100-metre breaststroke, which placed her third in her heat and eighth overall good enough to make the final, which runs tonight.
Considering the fact Pasloski is just 13 years old, competing against swimmers up to five years older than her, it's quite the feat. She's just the second Yukon swimmer to make a final at the Games, as Alexandra Gabor raced in the 1,500-m freestyle final earlier this week, placing eighth.
Gabor was also in the water this morning, touching the wall 12th overall in the women's 200-m free with a time of 2:12.16. That will put her in the consolation final later this evening.
Lynsey Pasloski also competed in the 200-m free, finishing seventh in her heat. Lynsey was sixth in her heat in the 100-m breast.
Ariana Edelman and Erin O'Connor represented the territory in the 200-m backstroke, placing seventh and eighth in their heats, respectively. Still to come for the Yukon women today is the 100-m butterfly.
In men's action, Geoffrey Thompson and Francis Aubin swam in the 100-m breast event this morning, placing seventh and eighth in their heats, respectively. Still to come for the men today are the 100-m fly, 200-m back and 200-m free.
In the pool on Wednesday, Spencer Edelman and Alan Lebedoff took part in the 50-m butterfly. Edelman was seventh in his heat while Lebedoff was eighth in his.
Edelman and Lebedoff also competed in the 100-m back, each finishing seventh in their heats.
Francis Aubin was sixth in his heat in the 200-m back while Tanner Cassidy touched the wall eighth in his heat in the same event.
Geoffrey Thompson and Brendan Zrum represented the Yukon in the 400-m free, each placing seventh in their heats. And in the 4x100 freestyle relay, the Yukon crew was fifth in their heat and ninth overall with a time of 4:03.89.
Lynsey had a strong day for the Yukon women Wednesday, posting a sixth-place finish in the 50-m fly with a time of 30.33. That was good enough to put her in the consolation final, where she recorded a fourth-place finish with a time of 29.90.
Kayla Yeulet also swam in the 50-m fly, claiming seventh spot in her heat.
Two more Yukoners made consolation finals on Wednesday Bronwyn finished fourth in the consolation with a time of 2:47.49 in the 200-m breast while Gabor was third in the consolation with a time of 4:36.10 in the 400-m free.
Erin O'Connor also competed in the 400-m free, placing seventh in her heat.
In soccer, the Yukon women picked up their first victory of the Games this morning, edging the N.W.T. 2-1 in their final contest of the tournament. The Yukon finished with a record of 1-3, after falling to New Brunswick 4-1 Wednesday.
The cycling road race is scheduled for today at the Games, with both men and women representing the territory. The cyclist will wrap up the action with the criterium on Friday.
