U Kon Echelon Biking Club is pleased to put on five races in June under the Participaction banner.

These races are to go fast, have fun and have prizes, food and drink to celebrate biking.

The first race was on June 5. This race had 21 participants, with the youngest being five-year-old Rylan Morris, who did the five-km loop in a time of 41.48.

The U11 boys category had seven participants, with the fastest time coming from Kai Gibson Taylor at 20.51, and a minute and a half from second and third place finishers Max Labelle and Roger Luxemburger.

U15 boys saw a lightning-fast ride and first place finish from Reid Saniford with 34.32, which was in the top four fastest time overall for two laps.

In U17 boys, James McCann had the fastest overall time for two laps in the race at 33.10, and the second-fastest time in the race came from Ava Irving-Staley with a time of 32.33 in U19 women.

On June 7, the Participaction races moved to Porter Creek Secondary School trails.

Unfortunately, the race route was a bit confusing, so some teens made wrong turns. We’ll know for next time to do a preview lap and have more race arrows.

Oscar Luxemburger came in super-fast with a time of 11.54 for one lap in U9 boys. In U7 boys, Henry Parker was not far behind with a time of 13.16; but Henry is only six, so it is very impressive at his age.

In U 11, there were lots of boys again. Max Labelle took top time with 20.31, followed by Roger Luxemburger at 21.06 and Owen Parker at 21.52.

U15 boys saw Alex Lebarge power his way to a 29.23 finish with Johna Irving-Staley coming in at 30.51.

In U17 boys, Mack Jenner took top time with 31.03, followed by Doon McDowell with 31.04 and James McCann at 31.37.

Unfortunately, wrong turns were made so times were not what they could have been.

Ava Irving-Staley took top time overall for two laps at 26.59—she didn’t make any wrong turns so her race time was fast and accurate.

Next up is Participaction X-C race at Mt. Mac on June 14th.

U Kon Echelon wishes to thank Participaction for its support of cross-country biking, and we hope that adults, teens and youth will come out to race and join us in celebrating cycling.
