Great day for a road race.
Great day for a road race.
VeloNorth's Hamilton Boulevard Loop Race saw 10 riders out last night.
The weather was mild, albeit it was windy for a criterium style race.
Nadele Flynn, second-place finisher in the Expert Women category, described the course as "nice, clean, new pavement with a moderate amount of traffic and a battle of headwinds.”
She rode with the speed skater duo of coach Phil Hoffman and his son Shea.
Phil had a flat on his last lap but fixed it and finished. Shea, who is 16 and the youngest rider coming out to the VeloNorth races, finished just ahead of his pack for a second-place finish.
Coming first in Sport men was Jonathan Lucas.
Kerri Paterson won first place in the Expert Women division and Ian Parker won first in the Expert Men. Paterson, a competitor in the Okanagan Ironman competitions in the summer, is recovering from being sick and still managed a first-place finish.
Ian Parker was battling for first with Stephen Ball in a sprint to the end with Parker coming in a full thirty seconds ahead of Ball.
"It was a hammerfest, not what I signed on for, but I followed Steve … this in my opinion is the best course,” Parker said.
Scott Kirby and Thomas Tetz battled for third place. Riding together the entire race, Kirby outsprinted Tetz to win a third-place finish in Expert Men by two seconds.
Kirby said the headwinds were tough and he was very happy to be riding with Thomas to share the power of the draft.
Try as they might, however, they couldn't catch up to Parker and Ball.
Jud Deuling came fifth in Expert Men's division, having ridden the entire course with Paterson and Lucas.
A big thank you to our volunteers, Raven, Caroline and Aaron.
