Yukon orienteers enjoyed a change of scenery for their opening meet.

More than 50 participants took part in the competition, which took place on the Mount Lorne map.

“It can be quite a tricky map area,” said organizer Karen McKenna.

The topography is very subtle and there may only be a few feet of elevation difference, she explained.

It has been awhile since Yukon Orienteering has utilized the map.

Division winners were:

Novice – Hunter Long (26:40)

Intermediate – Georgianna Pearson (28:53)

Advanced – Bob Sagar (39:11)

Expert – Forest Pearson (32:48)

The next orienteering meet will be on May 24 for World Orienteering Day.

There is also a learn to orienteer workshop for juniors on May 27.
