Orienteering meet attracts 68 competitors

Forest Pearson led the field in the expert division for the first orienteering meet of the season last week.

Pearson completed the course in 41 minutes and nine seconds while Caelan McLean finished second in a time of 50:13 and Trevor Bray was third with a time of 61:58.

Held on the Ear Lake map, the first meet attracted 68 participants of all ages and experience levels.

Meets will be held every second Wednesday through to September. A training session was held for youth prior to the meet. Training sessions will be held every Wednesday for the next eight weeks.

In the advanced division, Kirsten Burnett finished first in a field of nine competitors with a time of 39:23. Sara Nielsen finished second in 48:08 and Bob Sagar was third with a time of 52:10.

In the field of 21 participants competing in the intermediate division, Sabine Schweiger placed first with a time of 37:18, edging out second-place Bryn Knight by 24 seconds while Lara Melnik finished third in 39:25.

Wyatt Burnett finished first with a time of 22:36 in the novice division, the largest division with 33 participants. Jamie Kenyon and Anette Miller crossed the finish line with identical times of 32:39 to share second while Amanda Bornhuse and Zachariah Bornhuse shared third with times of 32:46, just seven seconds back of Kenyon and Miller.
