February is the month for celebrating love, and OneGoal is getting into the spirit by spreading the love for hockey during Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada, a day-long celebration of Canada's favorite sport.

On Feb. 11, OneGoal will host a free Try Hockey event at the Canada Games Centre. The event will provide kids with an opportunity to try their hand at our great sport, with equipment, ice time and guidance provided by local partners Sport Yukon, Whitehorse Minor Hockey and Yukon Amateur Hockey.

Support will also be provided by the Toronto Maple Leafs.

"The Leafs are deeply committed to encouraging minor hockey participation and partnering with OneGoal at Hockey Day in Canada is a great fit for the organization,” said Tom Anselmi, executive vice president and chief operating officer, who went on to say that Leaf alumni Wendel Clark will be on hand to help out with the event.

The event is a part of an effort to grow minor hockey participation in Canada by providing kids with a chance to experience the sport firsthand and free of charge.

"We're excited to share the game with a new group of kids, especially during the excitement of Hockey Week,” says Bill Hattem, executive director of OneGoal.

"There's really nothing better than seeing a kid fall in love with the sport for the first time.”

The event is open to the first 35 children to register for the event. Registration forms will be available at Sport Yukon, http://www.whitehorseminorhockey.ca/, http://www.yukonhockey.ca/ or http://www.hockeyday2011.ca/.

Forms must be mailed or delivered to Sport Yukon, 4061 4th Avenue, Whitehorse, Yukon, Y1A 1H1.
