Oldtimer hockey leaguers tickle the twine

Stu Mackay scored the game winner with less than five minutes on the clock to lead Medicine Chest to a 3-2 win over EDI in Senior Circuit action of Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey Sunday night at Takhini Arena. Ian Boyce and Ron Cruikshank also scored for Medicine Chest as they vaulted past EDI into second place in the standings. For EDI, it was Jeff Jensen and Laurie Malo supplying the offence.

In the other Senior tilt, five different skaters connected for goals as Tim Horton’s downed Air North 5-1. Ron Daub (waaaay overdue), Greg Lane, Bernie Heffner, Mike Jim and Garrett Kuptana did the damage for Tims. Dave Wipf scored a breakaway goal for the Air North marker.

In Junior division action, Joel Witten netted two as Yukon Inn punished CapriCMW 8-2. Single scores came off the sticks of Scott Olafson, Walt Liley, Russ McDiarmid, Shawn Kinsella, Chad Cowan and Tyson Wirth. For Capri, it was Briar Young and Geordan Clark with the goals.

And Kilrich came within 48 seconds of shutting out Firth in a 6-1 victory. Myles Dolphin and Ed van Randen continued their scoring exploits with two apiece for the lumbermen, and Tim van Hinte and Chris Nash chipped in the others.

Peter Johnston spoiled the shutout bid for Firth

Thursday:

Three skaters combined for all of CapriCMW’s scoring in leading their team to a 7-5 win over Kilrich in Junior Circuit action of Whitehorse Oldtimers hockey Thursday night at Takhini Arena. Geordan Clark netted three, and Blayne Monahan and Kevin Johnstone chipped in a pair each in victory. For Kilrich, their scoring was more spread out as Ben Kielb, Myles Dolphin, Arlo O’Riordan, Tim van Hinte and Mark King connected.

The other Junior jaunt saw Yukon Inn and Firth skate to a 5-5 sawoff. Shawn Kinsella scored twice in the second period to lead Yukon Inn to a comeback tie, and Tyson Wirth, Colin Nash and Chad Cowan also scored. Dustin Heffner had a goal and three assists for Firth, and other Rangers’ marksmen were Greg Charlie, Mark Bowen, Peter Johnston and Josh Turcotte.

Wednesday:

In Senior action, Medicine Chest broke open a tight game with five goals in the second period en route to a 6-2 win over Air North Wednesday night. Mervin Jacobsen and Pete Mostyn each scored twice for the pharmacy gang, and Al Hansen and Dave White (!) also scored. For the flight crew, it was Dave Wipf and Adam Green with markers.

The other Senior match saw Tim Hortons and EDI skate to a 1-1 draw. Lorne Burnett ripped home a point shot for Tim’s and Jeff Jensen banged home a rebound for EDI.

A very exciting report about the Yukon Oldtimer hockey! That makes me, the mother of Tim Van Hinte, a very, very oldtimer mother. Thanks a lot! LOL!
