2016 kicked off with a bang for the Whitehorse Rapids old-timer soccer league.

Pepsi took apart Yukon Brewing 8-1 in over-35 action at the Canada Games Centre Saturday morning.

Paul Inglis recently returned from an anger management course to lead the team in both goals and yellow cards in this game, grabbing four goals and one card.

Inglis was helped with goals by Eric ‘the Mean Machine’ Murphy (2) and Chris Stacey (2) as Pepsi overwhelmed a poor Brew side with only a Rich Potter goal as consolation.

In the early game, it looked like the teams had consumed too much Christmas cheer in a largely pedestrian affair, although the stats did reflect that John MacPhail ran almost two kilometres during the game.

Quest Computers’ newly found spirit allowed them to outfox a tired looking Klondike Business Solutions (KBS) side 7-4 with a hat trick from the excellent Guliano Rayo, assisted by a goal apiece from David Rayo, Leonard Linklater and the talented Gord Barker.

KBS goals came from Danny Macdonald, Adil Khalik, Jason Steele and an own goal.
