Northern Novas celebrate first-place finish in B.C.

Eleven synchronized swimmers from Whitehorse gave it their all in Richmond, B.C., last weekend.

Eleven synchronized swimmers from Whitehorse gave it their all in Richmond, B.C., last weekend.

The Northern Novas participated in the Mabel Moran Championships April 8 to 10.

A five-person team in the Recreational Star 3-4 team category took first in their division, thanks to some fine work by Ella Laliberty, Chrystal Goulah, Kinley Battersby, Mia Houde and Mia Maguire.

Meanwhile, Yukon’s 11-to-12 age group took second place for their routine, with Camron Maguire, Helene Maguire, Taylor Jobin, Amelia Frey and Kate Josie turning in a synchronized performance.

Also highlighting the results sheet were solo results by Jobin (second in age 13 to 15) and Teera Walsh (third in 16 to 18 category).

The club has participated in the late-season meet several times over the past few years.

The Novas swam in two team categories, two solo categories, while six athletes took part in figures events.

Walsh turned in the top figures performance, finishing fourth in the 16-to-18 age category.

Additionally, Josie took sixth, Jobin and Frey earned seventh, while Camron Maguire and Helene Maguire finished eighth and ninth in their age groups, respectively.
