Time is running out for youth soccer teams across Canada to enter into the BMO Team of the Week program.

With less than three weeks left until the program closes, two Whitehorse teams have already been nominated, and the local soccer community is hoping to see a lot more before the nomination deadline of June 30.

The two Whitehorse teams currently nominated are the U8 Developmental Team and the YSC Strikers U10 Girls.

The U8s were one of the 75 Early Bird Prize winners entered in the BMO Team of the Week contest nationwide.

With a few clicks of the mouse, the U8s won 10 BMO branded soccer balls, 20 water bottles and 20 lanyards, valued at roughly $400.

Winners of the Team of the Week have been announced each week since the contest began in April, and receive $500, track suits and a donation to a local charity – not to mention the chance to win the $125,000 grand prize for field refurbishment, a trip to see a Toronto FC or Vancouver Whitecaps FC home game and $5,000 in their chosen charity.

The grand prize winner will be chosen based on votes starting Aug. 1.

The program focuses on youth soccer and the accomplishments of teams both on and off the field, and offers those teams recognition for their commitment to the beautiful game also soccer.

But the program can also benefit the community with the national prize.

With soccer being the most popular sport in not only Canada, but the world, a new soccer pitch can go along way in a child's life.

Recent BMO poll results show that soccer more than doubles hockey in terms of registered youth in Canada.

This trend is continually rising as parents look to place their children in some sort of team sport.
