With an entire roster of NHL legends, the score was an afterthought at this year's Oldtimers Hockey Challenge Classic.
On Monday, the Legendary Hockey Heroes made their annual trip to Whitehorse to take on the Yukon Selects.
Spectators were treated not only to the play of the NHL stars, but also to some local talent, from the Arctic Edge Skating Club. Several club figure skaters performed during the second period intermission.
The oldtimers' classic also helped raise $3,000 for Sport Yukon's Kids Recreation Fund. This was the third straight year a donation has been made to the rec fund.
Some of the hockey legends included Glenn Anderson, Cliff Ronning, Bryan Trottier, Bernie Nicholls, Bill Smith and Gary Leeman.
The Legends didn't waste anytime getting on the scoreboard, netting its first goal in the first 30 seconds. Williams was the scorer, firing a quick shot into the goal after being setup out in front of the net.
The offensive onslaught continued as the Legends sent eight more pucks into the goal by the halfway point of the contest. However, thankfully for the Yukon Selects, the Tim Horton's Timbits were ready to hit the ice with 10 minutes left on the clock in the second.
The group made the most of their five minutes, netting four goals that were added to the Yukon Selects total.
The score was 9-7 in favour of the Legends after the Tykes got off the ice. Despite the Timbits bringing it close, the Legends went on to win 10-9.
"We're nobody's compared to these guys," said Blaine 'Bubba' Demchuk, a player on the Yukon Selects. "We're cannon fodder. They are here, they have fun and I would love to see the turnout they keep coming out with."
Demchuk said he wasn't at all disappointed about losing the game.
"It doesn't matter how bad you get beat, it's all for fun," he said. "This is the era that we grew up watching these guys and they are all legends."
Four-time Stanley Cup winner Bob Bourne said he always enjoys coming to Whitehorse for the oldtimers challenge.
"They were great guys to play against," he said about the Yukon Selects.
"Sometimes we will play teams that get very competitive. We are here just to raise money and have a good time, but these guys were great to play against and I really enjoyed it."
