After six days, the 2009 Canadian National Silhouette Championships came to a close on Saturday at the Whitehorse Pistol and Rifle Club.
The competition began last week with the smallbore hunter and standard events, before finishing with the high power category.
Each the smallbore and high power events were three days in total.
The standard class featured guns that can be custom built, while hunter was basically right off the shelf from a sporting goods store and was a lighter weight group.
The high power category was a little bit more challenging than small bore as a result of the targets being placed at a further distance.
Shooters attempted 10 targets at each range and the different classes included masters, AAA, AA, A and B.
David Johnston posted the top score in the AAA high power standard rifle class, finishing with 80 points after three days. George Kesic came in second with 70 points and Ralph Oler rounded out the top three with 53 points.
Kesic was the big winner in the smallbore masters hunting category, placing first overall with 89 points, edging out Johnston by a single point.
The senior shooter also won standard smallbore masters event and his score was 13 points higher than his closest competitor.
Yukoner Nich Rittel placed first in the AA category, finishing with an impressive score of 68 points. David MacDonald had the second best score in the AA class (62 points).
Rittel finished as the top junior in the standard and hunter smallbore events as well.
Another Yukoner won the A high power standard rifle category. Jim Sias placed first with a score of 61 points.
Rachel Raymont placed first in the B, totalling 30 points.
Some of the other Yukoners to compete at the nationals included Dave Buchanan, Ken Speiss, Lyle Thompson, Kent Davy, Gregor Gabb, John Brown, Corky Repka, Ethan Robinson, Doug Trombley, Adrian Wheeler and Kianna Baker.
