A Whitehorse Atom Development Team bookended a hockey tournament in Salmon Arm, B.C. with a pair of wins last weekend.
The team, coached by Derek Johnstone normally plays in the peewee house league locally and Johnstone said it was a good test to play against Atom-aged players.
They faced the host team in their first game, downing Salmon Arm 10-3.
Games 2 and 3 were tougher. They lost 14-4 to Coquitlam, a small but fast team, and 8-2 to Prince George.
They played for sixth place in their final game against Penticton.
Johnstone said the kids looked like a new team that morning.
“(They) really made us proud how they bounced back after two losses in a row,” he said.
The Mustangs won the game 7-2.
“I think our team learned a lot this weekend, being some of our kids’ first tournament of this calibre, it really shows we are on the right track,” said Johnstone. “I think this tournament will only make us stronger, with the kids knowing what we need to work on.”

I'd like to thank Derek and his team on a gutsy performance while learning what they could. This is money well spent unlike the cash being thrown away on the unneeded executive building move for the City.
