Mustangs lose by four in rec league

Five unanswered goals helped carry the Envirolube Oilers to a 5-1 victory over the Whitehorse Bantam Mustangs Monday in their playoff Recreational Hockey League match.

Five unanswered goals helped carry the Envirolube Oilers to a 5-1 victory over the Whitehorse Bantam Mustangs Monday in their playoff Recreational Hockey League match.


Envirolube Oilers 5, Bantam Mustangs 1

The Mustangs were first to get on the board, thanks to a goal by Gage Preece, who was set up by both Gibson Pearson and Scott Meredith.

However, the lead was short-lived and with just 1:27 remaining in the opening frame, Rob Dawe scored for the Oilers.

Envirolube added four more goals in the second period to seal the win.

Peter Mostyn led all goal scorers with two, while Evan Wise and Dave Rach also scored for the team.

Geordan Read finished with two assists for Envirolube.


Narrow Gauge Contracting 5, Summit Savages 4

Graeme Carruthers led the way in scoring for Narrow Gauge Contracting, netting a pair of goals, including the go-ahead tally at 18:03 of the second.

The team's other scorers included Durand Cornett, Dan MacDonald and Hector Lang.

Spencer Bergen, Brandon Duncan, Dustin Slonski and Craig Yakichuck scored for the Savages.


Castle Rock, YES Jets 1

Castle Rock advanced to the second round of the playoffs thanks to two straight wins over the Jets.

Goal scorers in Monday's game included John Van Langen, with two in total, and one from Jeff O'Farrell.

Kristian King scored the lone Jets goal.
