Pizza boys show their talent

In the final round of games in the over-35’s soccer league, Tony’s Pizza showed that they will be a formidable foe in the playoff games, as they brushed aside champions Yukon Brewing 7-3 at the Canada Games Centre last Saturday.

There were six different scorers for Tony’s including Eric Murphy, who retained the golden boot trophy with his 34th goal of the season. This is a tremendous effort considering the talent in the league.

Other players to find the net were Mamadou Togola (2), Keith Maguire, Gord Barker, and Adil Khalik.

Jim Connell, Guiliano Rayo and David Rayo all scored for the Brew.

Reixinger gets the win

Pepsi keeper Thomas Reixinger has seen a lot of goals fly past him this season, but on Saturday he was on the winning side for a change.

The big German has put in some fantastic performances throughout the season, keeping his side respectable against a tsunami of shots. Reixinger denied KBS, allowing Pepsi to win 7-5.

Danny Macdonald and Jürgen Korn picked up two goals apiece for Pepsi, with Ross Lindley, Steve Insley and deadly Doug Hitch assisting with a goal each. For KBS Andy Todd got two, Jim Brown, Arnold Hedstrom and Keith Welch all grabbed a goal.

The first round of the playoffs sees Yukon Brewing take on Pepsi, and Tony’s Pizza against Klondike Business Solutions on Feb. 25.

The over-35 soccer league report is prepared by Andy Todd.
