The ski season is winding down, but not before a big party to celebrate the great year of powder and fun on the slopes.

While Mt. Sima is planning the final days on the hill, it's also planning the annual celebration for skiers and riders.

The party starts with the lifts at 10 a.m. Sunday, and will continue all day until 6 p.m., after the hill shuts down for the day at 4 p.m.

Activities include board and ski cross, beer gardens, a live band, maple taffy, a barbecue, fun family activities and board demos.

Area manager Guillaume Rochet said the event is great for people to come out and enjoy the hill with their families.

"It's a big community event,” he said.

Simapalooza returned to the mountain last year after a hiatus, and the huge success urged Rochet to make it an annual celebration.

More than 600 people hit the slopes for Simapalooza last year, and Rochet is expecting that many, and possibly more.

"The forecast seems so nice for Sunday,” he said.

It's a great weekend for skiers and riders to be out on the slopes, with the recent snowfall that has created perfect conditions for the final few weeks of the Yukon ski season.

"The snow conditions are just so nice,” Rochet said.

Conditions are expected to be warm with tons of snow, he added.

"It's the right time to have a beer outside,” he said.

Visitors will be treated to the board and ski cross race, that will end at the bottom of the hill.

Last year was the first time Mt. Sima held the exciting races down at the bottom of the hill so that spectators could watch, and Rochet says it was a huge success.

"People enjoyed that,” he said. "So I said why not do it again.”

The races are organized by the local snowboard and freestyle skiing clubs.

"It's open to the public,” Rochet said.

Anyone can sign up to race, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday for a cost of $5.

Guests to Mt. Sima can expect family activities all day.

As the mountain gets ready to celebrate, it's also preparing to shut down for the winter.

The hill will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the Easter weekend. Monday, April 5th will be the final day for skiing for the season.
