Yukon biathlete Nadia Moser, coming off a podium finish just before the New Year, competed in Duszniki Zdroj, Poland over the weekend coming in ninth place, in her second race.

On the day of the 7.5-kilometre race, temperatures hovered around zero with slight wind and snow.

Coming off a gold medal performance, Moser said she did not feel any additional outside pressure in her race on Sunday.

“I did not feel more pressure from other people after I won because to win I had almost a perfect race,” said Moser in an email. “I know perfect races don’t happen all the time. That being said, I think I might have felt a little more pressure from myself because I now know that I am capable of good results.”

Heading into the race Moser said her game plan was to just focus on all the skills she had been working on in practice.

“For this race, I just focused on trying my hardest on the race course and shooting like I do in training,” said Moser.

Asides from a few misses on her second sprint, she says that she had a really good race day.

“I felt that my second sprint went really well other than my two misses on the range,” said Moser. “I am happy with the result.

After another strong performance, she still says she is looking to improve as a biathlete.

“My skiing felt good and my shooting speed was good,” said Moser. “It would be great if I could hit all the targets. Also, my ski speed can always be better.”

The winner of the 7.5-kilometre sprint race was Russian biathlete, Natalia Gerbulova, who finished the race in a time of 20:40.8. Moser finished 1:11.7 behind the winning score.

Moser’s teammate and the only other Canadian in the final, Emily Dickson, came in 44th.

On Saturday, Moser competed in her first 7.5-kilometre race of the weekend. She finished in the 39th position, 2:11.7 behind the winning time. Dickson came in 2:00.6 after the winner, good for the 34th sport. The Russians owned the three podium spots, with Gerbulova posting the winning effort in 22:10.7.

Moser’s next race is today in a 12.5-kilometre race in Arber, Germany.
