While Kilrich’s juggernaut old-timer squad grabbed the majority of the headlines this season, Blaine Monahan quietly strung together a stellar season of his own.

The Firth Rangers forward finished the Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey League season with a goal and an assist Sunday in a 6-4 loss to Kilrich, padding his stats to a league-best 80 points, courtesy of 41 goals and 39 assists.

Monahan finished the season six points up on Adam Green, who finished second in the league scoring race with 38 goals and 36 helpers.

The old-timer playoffs are slated to kick off tomorrow night, and will wrap up with the league champion being crowned in early April.

While Monahan may have won the individual scoring title, this has been Kilrich’s year.

The team capped a brilliant season with one last win Sunday to finish 35-1-6, good for a whopping 76 points. Goalie Jeff Kalles finished with a league-best 1.90 GAA.

Air North finished second overall with a record of 22-12-8, good for 52 points.

They also hold the distinction of being the only team to down Kilrich, dispatching the league leaders by a score of 6-1 in early January.

Sunday’s final games saw Dave White lead Kilrich past Firth with a hat trick and two assists, while Mark Suominen sniped a pair of goals alongside one assist and Kerry Pettitt picked up four helpers.

Air North beat Medicine Chest 5-2, Yukon Inn downed the cellar-dwelling AON Flames 5-1, and EDI got past the Klondyke Dental Molars by a score of 6-2.
