Whitehorse's kids have been itching to get outside and play some ball, but they will unfortunately have to wait for the weather to clear up.

Heavy snowfall in Whitehorse has caused both Whitehorse Minor Softball and Whitehorse Minor Soccer to cancel their first day of the season, as many local fields have been covered after the spring storm that blew in Sunday night.

Jean Poulin from Whitehorse Minor Softball confirmed the cancellations Monday morning, adding that the age groups effected would be those born from 2000-2003.

Amy King from Soccer Yukon was able to confirm the cancelation of the first outdoor soccer games of the season.

Both King and Poulin said the decision on future games would be made day-by-day.

"We'll see how it goes tomorrow,” said King. "We'll see how the weather is.”
