The Oceanside Generals midget hockey team were treated to a great time in Whitehorse, hosted by the Midget Mustangs A team.
The teams played two games, one on Friday and another on Saturday. On Sunday, Oceanside's players got a chance to go dog sledding and enjoy the snow.
The teams split the series, with Oceanside taking the Friday night game, and the Mustangs winning in a shutout on Saturday.
On Friday, the game was a nail-biter, with each team continuing to tie up the score right until the end.
"Friday was a really good game,” said Jim Stephens, coach for the midget Mustangs.
In the third period the score see-sawed back and forth, after a 3-1 score throughout the second period for Oceanside.
Goalie Steven Harlow did a great job stopping shots, but with .09 seconds left, a goal bounced off the skate of a Mustangs' player and into Harlow's net.
"I know he was pretty bummed out with the fluky goal in the first one,” Stephens said.
But Harlow got a chance to make up for it, but shutting out Oceanside on Saturday to get a 3-0 win over the visiting team.
The Mustangs last saw Oceanside in November in Abbotsford, where they tied 2-2. They invited the team up to Whitehorse afterwards for the tie breaker. It seems the two teams are fairly evenly matched, with a tie and a split series under their belts.
After the Saturday game the two teams had a shootout competition for fun.
Both of the Midget Mustangs teams are now deciding who will be sent to the Arctic Winter Games in Grande Prairie in March. The team that is not selected will go to the hockey provincials in B.C.
"This is the first time in midget where we've had kind of two rep-type teams, so it's really good for the kids because they get to do one or the other,” Stephens said.

I'd like to thank all of the Whitehorse coaching staff, parents, players, and Jim and Sue for making the trip to Whitehorse a great memory for the Oceanside Midget Tier 2 Generals. The players are still talking about how much fun they had and some are wishing to move to the Yukon now... The hockey was great, the people were amazing and the day at Lake Labarge with Scott and his crew from Kanoe was unbelievable. We would come back in a heartbeat. Many many thanks...
