Kane Dawe continues his strong play for the Whitehorse midget AA Mustangs, potting a pair of goals to help pave the way to a 3-1 victory over Quesnel early this morning at the B.C. provincial hockey championship in Enderby.
The feisty forward also recorded a hat trick in Sunday's opener against Beaver Valley.
Whitehorse was up 2-0 for the majority of this morning's game, thanks to goals by Dawe and Ted Stephens. Quesnel scored late in the third before Dawe added an empty-netter to seal the deal. Mitch Heynen was strong between the pipes for Whitehorse.
With this morning's win, the Mustangs now sit at 3-0, as they blanked North Okanagan 3-0 last night. Scott Smeeton was in net for the shutout.
The midgets won't get much rest before they take to the ice for their next contest against Kitimat, which is scheduled for 3:30 this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the bantam AA Mustangs suffered a tough 8-2 loss to Quesnel last night at their provincial championship, in Elk Valley.
Not only did that drop their round-robin record to 1-1, but Aidan Love was assessed a match penalty for intent to injure. That would mean a suspension for the rest of the tournament if the call stands, but the coaching staff is currently appealing it.
The bantams have today off before facing off against Aldergrove at 8 a.m. tomorrow.
In the pee wee AA championship at Nelson, Whitehorse dropped it's opening game to Salmon Arm yesterday morning 7-2, then fell to Terrace in a close battle 6-5 last night.
Next up for the pee wee Mustangs is a game against Trail at 6 p.m.
