Medal performances continue for Team Yukon at NAIG

Team Yukon continues to post top results at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto.

Team Yukon continues to post top results at the North American Indigenous Games in Toronto.

This morning, long-distance swimmer Kassua Dreyer won gold in the U14 800m freestyle swimming event at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

She stopped the clock in 10 minutes and 30.18 seconds.

Dreyer’s is the first gold medal for Team Yukon at NAIG.

Dreyer is fresh off the B.C. Open Water Swimming Championships and will be heading to Winnipeg for the Canada Summer Games.

On Wednesday, paddlers Jedrek Dendys and Alice Frost won bronze in the mixed canoe 6,000m event at the Welland International Flatwater Centre.

Judy Russell also earned bronze Wednesday in the women’s 60kg wrestling event.

Awesome job by our Young Athletes! These young people work very hard and strive to do the best they can. I for one, am very proud of our youth and applause the parents and coaches for their time and effort in working with our youth.
