It hasn’t taken long for Greg and Denise McHale to make their mark on the adventure racing circuit.

Last weekend, the duo dominated New Zealand’s Surf2Firth Bush Marathon, both setting new course records en route to finishing first overall in their divisions.

Greg McHale, 43, broke the course record by 29 minutes, finishing in 5:05:30, while Denise McHale, 42, broke the women’s record by 31 minutes, finishing in 5:51:58.

The Carcross couple recently returned to the racing scene after five years of semi-retirement, signing with three-time defending U.S. champion Team Tecnu in hopes of finally claiming a world title.

Prior to the Bush Marathon – known as the most difficult off-road marathon in the country – they spent six weeks training in New Zealand.

The results show the McHales are ready to compete for titles at every adventure race they show up at this season, Team Tecnu manager Doug Judson told the Star.

“The McHales are ready to rock,” he said. “I am thrilled to have them as part of Team Tecnu adventure racing. Not only are they fantastic athletes, but they’re also incredible brand ambassadors – and just really good people.”

The first official Team Tecnu race is in May.

Thanks for covering this incredible story of two of the Yukon's top athletes! Adventure Racers are tougher than tough and there is little out there that compares to what they go through. Way to go Greg and Denise!
