At 63 degrees north latitude, Mayo hosted the most northern tennis clinic in Canada last weekend.

Tennis Yukon and the Village of Mayo teamed up to offer a tennis clinic in Mayo on Sept. 11, when 17 kids and adults participated in a day of instruction, play and fun with Tennis Yukon coach Mike Russo.

"It's part of Tennis Yukon's commitment to developing tennis to get out into the communities, but in this case, it's also pretty fun to be able to say we held the most northern tennis clinic in all of Canada!” Tennis Yukon president Stacy Lewis said.

Ian Spencer, director of recreation for the Village of Mayo, said people from ages 10 to 60 have been using the newly finished multi-use court.

"We wanted to give everyone a good base to start from in terms of understanding the game and fundamentals,” Spencer said.

"We were happy to partner with Tennis Yukon and the Yukon Government's summer activities program to come to our community, help instruct and add another way for community members to stay active and healthy.”
