The Yukon can now boast another national champion, this time in the sport of shooting.

Danielle Marcotte and Kara Lepine just came back from the Canadian National Pistol Championships hosted in Prince Albert, Sask. from Aug. 9-16.

Marcotte won the National Canadian Junior Women's division, placing first overall as well. Lepine won silver in the sub junior category and ended up ninth overall.

The competition consisted of a two-day shoot with 40 targets being scored for each day. Marcotte placed third on the first day of the shooting, coming up in first place on the second day.

In the final shoot, with the eight high score women, Marcotte posted an 821.1, claiming title. The second-place competitor shot an 815.0 and third place 812.1.

With this acheivement, Marcotte can now apply to be picked for the Canadian national junior shooting team.

Both Marcotte and Lepine compete with air-pistols at 10 meters and have only been shooting nine months. They both represented Team Yukon at the Canada Winter Games. At just 14 years old, the two were the youngest competing in the recent national championships.
