Local runners and walkers were back at it on Tuesday night for the second Intersport Fun Run and Walk of the season.
In total, 35-athletes participated in 5-kilometre and 2.5-km distances.
Leading the way was junior runner Logan Roots, who completed the 5-km route in just over 18 minutes. Mike Richards, who placed first in last week's event, trailed Roots by 13 seconds.
Roots is considered the top junior runner in the territory and is training in preparation for the National Juniors at the end of July.
Willy Palahicky placed third with a time of 19:53.
For the second week in a row Amelia Frasher took home the top honours on the women's side, completing the run in 21 minutes and 52 seconds.
In a battle for second place, Veronica Strain just outpaced noted masters runner Janet Clarke by ten seconds with a time of 22:32.
The close finishes continued in the walking categories, with Ruth Hall, Tanya Astika and Bonnie Love each vying for the top spot once again.
After placing first last week, Astika crossed the finish line tied for first with Hall, while Love came in just two seconds behind.
Don White, local running coach and the organizer behind the Fun Run and Walk said he's hoping the number of participants will increase over the coming weeks.
"We've had close to forty people each of the nights so it speaks good for the season,” he said.
"People that sometimes come out are all busy training up for the bike relay (Kluane Chilkat Bike Relay), we tend not to see an increase in numbers until that's over.”
White said he's been happy to see familiar faces near the top of the pack each week.
"We've got the old diehards and the average age of the top finishers is probably close to 50,” he said.
Starting next Tuesday, White will host the first of a series of coaching clinics beginning at 5 p.m.
"Some of the athletes will be going to the National Seniors competition in Sydney, Nova Scotia, so we'll be preparing for that,” he said.
The Fun Run and Walks will continue every Tuesday until the end of September.
On June 19, the Aidan Love Summer Solstice Run/Walk will be held at the upper parking lot of Grey Mountain Road.
Participants will be able to compete in 2.5-km, 5-km or 12-km distances.
Aidan Love is a young Yukoner who suffered a serious spinal injury in a skiing accident this past winter, the event is being held to help raise funds to support Aidan and his family.
Once the event concludes, a barbeque will be held with various items available by donation.
