Local trio gives their all at world juniors

Three young Yukon orienteers spent a week traversing the landscapes of Norway earlier this month.

Team Canada members Pia Blake, Trevor Bray and Caelan McLean recently competed at the Junior World Orienteering Championships, held July 4 to 10 in Rauland, Norway.

The trio was part of a nine-member Team Canada.

Each orienteer competed in a handful of events, including sprint, mid-distance and long-distance races, as well as a team relay.

Blake’s results were as follows: July 5 sprint (93rd); July 6 mid-distance qualifier (26th); July 7 mid-distance B final (39th); July 9 long-distance final (108th); and July 10 team relay (33rd).

Meanwhile, Bray finished 121st in the sprint, 43rd in the mid-distance qualifier, 23rd in the mid-distance C final, 129th in the long-distance event and 49th in a mixed team relay.

Finally, McLean was 139th in the sprint, 51st in the mid-distance qualifier, 28th in the mid-distance C final, 141st in the long-distance final, and also 49th in the mixed team relay.
