Erin Oliver-Beebe is heading to Kontiolahti Finland, as a member of Canada's National Junior Team.

Oliver-Beebe, along with fellow Yukoners, Jennifer Curtis and Ryan Burlingame, competed in the Jr. World Youth Trials in La Patrie, Quebec over the weekend.

The local athletes were joined by the best biathletes in Canada vying for four spots on the National Youth and Junior Teams.

"This year has had a lot of ‘firsts' for me and going overseas will just top it off,” Oliver-Beebe said.

"I'm pretty excited for this opportunity.”

It's been a strong season for the Yukon biathletes and they were able to carry their momentum to top-ten finishes in their respective events.

Oliver-Beebe finished 4th in the 7.5 km mass start, 7th in the 7.5km sprint and 2nd in the individual 10.0 km pursuit.

Those results placed her fourth overall in the field and solidified her spot on the national team.

Curtis, who was battling an illness in the first race, finished 11th, 8th, and 7th in her events, earning an 8th overall finish.

Curtis, who shared the podium with Oliver-Beebee last month in Canmore, Alta., during a NorAM event, has been steadily climbing the national ranks.

Burlingame, respected for his shooting accuracy, finished 7th overall in a strong junior male field.

Oliver-Beebe will now switch her focus to the upcoming World Championships, which will run from Feb. 20th to 26th.

She has spent the season training in Canmore and has seen noticeable improvement in her skills.

"I'm really glad I had the opportunity to go to the trials,” she said.

"I had some good races where my skiing felt solid and I was focused with my shooting.

"It was also great to travel with a new team and new coaches. It's always fun to get to know new people.”
