Lightning strikes twice for Yukon Brewing

Ciaran Connolly was again on fire,

By Whitehorse Star on February 16, 2024

Ciaran Connolly was again on fire, as he hit his second hat trick in as many games. The Irish legend was again in dominant form, leading his team to a 5-4 victory over Chieftain.

The second half of the season has been an unqualified success for Connolly and his men. They have played with a passion that many Valentine recipients would be jealous of. In fact when Connolly celebrated his third goal, the embrace he gave his players would not have been out of place on Love Island.

His two lieutenants Michael Bores and Michael Hamilton were again on the scoresheet, as they took the game away from Chieftain. Although Chieftain did provide a comeback that could have been decisive if it wasn’t for Chris Harwood in the Brew net, who again was very steady for his team.

Chieftain scorers were skipper Kruno Kunovic, Fabian Gylka and Mark Chandler with a comedy goal thrown in.

Funk’s goal lights up the CGC

Klondike Office Solutions put in a very professional performance to beat Air North Rangers 3-1.

All over the pitch each KOS player put in a shift of hard work and energy that neutralized the Air North team who gamely stuck to the task, but were ultimately undone by the lack of creativity.

This cannot be said of Derek Funk, whose nimble footwork and delicate touch was a treat for his fans. His goal, a volley smeared into the top corner of the goal, gave the keeper Sean Macdonald no chance whatsoever to save. Funk’s strike was followed up by good goals from Huy Nguyen and sub Kruno Kunovic.

This lead to the rarest of sights, Iain Breckenridge, skipper of the Rangers, picking the ball up and running to take a quick free kick every time they were awarded one. His haste did not influence the result despite Adriano Lamberti’s fine goal.

Yukoninfo.com shows what could of been

Yukoninfo.com were in imperious form, as they swept aside league leaders Pepsi in a massive shock that increased the pressure on Pepsi to win the league.

Ash Jordan was having fun up front for Yukoninfo.com, as he scored two and could have had more if not for Stu Knack in the Pepsi goal who had a superb game.

Underrated star Matt Larsen added to his goal tally as Yukoninfo.com buzzed around the Pepsi net like a swarm of drunken bees.

The team in orange would have been serious contenders for the league title if they could put in offerings like this every week, but a lack of consistency has hurt them this term.

Pepsi were missing top striker Franklin Fru and his absence was felt by his teammates as they lacked a killer touch around the goal, Although Adil Khalik showed his worth with another goal for his team.

Pepsi will now have to see how other games go next week to see if they are in with a shot of lifting the league trophy.
