The 25th annual Law Day charity run saw walkers and runners battle the elements en route to raising slightly more than $4,700 for the Yukon Association for Community Living.
The annual event has been held in Whitehorse since 1991.
The first run, organized by local lawyer Dan Shier and Tom Ullyett, saw 47 runners participate.
Some of the territory’s top runners turned out for the nation’s first Law Day run, and soon other Canadian cities followed suit with runs of their own – including Ottawa.
The run has garnered as many as 325 runners in the past when a huge number of students took part, and became a charity event 15 years ago, Ullyett told the Star.
Law Day is celebrated by Canada’s legal community in mid-April each year, marking the creation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms April 17, 1982.
The event kicks off the running season in the Yukon. The next event on the Athletics Yukon calendar is the Run for Mom, a five-km event held on the trail every Mother’s Day.
The weekly running circuit will start up the week following.
Participants received a T-shirt in exchange for their registration fees.
