The Law Day Fun Run and Walk is an established yearly event in Whitehorse which receives significant media attention and draws numerous participants.

This year, it was held on May 4 and was a huge success thanks to the community sponsors and participants with over 200 runners and walkers participating and $5,050 raised for charity.

Created by the Canadian Bar Association and first held in Canada in 1983, Law Day is aimed at educating and informing the public about the role and importance of the law. To that end, Yukon CBA has been supporting charities connected to access to justice in our community for 28 years. To date, the CBA Yukon Fun Run has raised over $101,000 in charity dollars.

This year the event had the theme of ‘Consent’ and the committee selected the Women’s Transition Home as the recipient charity. The Women’s Transition Home is a Dignity Preserving organization that tenaciously advocates for the equal rights and needs of women in our society, especially those experiencing violence. The funds collected will be used in a number of ways, including providing services and supports for women and children fleeing violence and in crisis.

The Yukon Canadian Bar Association Law Day Committee would like to thank our generous sponsors for another successful event: Shier & Jerome, Austring, Fendrick, & Fairman, Air North, Yukon News, CKRW, Morris & Sova, Lamarche & Lang, Whittle & Company, the Yukon Human Rights Commission, the Whitehorse Daily Star, Woodward & Company and Roothman & Company for their support of the Fun Run.
