Kilrich locks up first place in oldtimer league

With a tie Sunday in Whitehorse oldtimer hockey action, Kilrich has locked up first place in the league.

It’s now mathematically impossible for any team to catch Kilrich sitting with 28 wins, one loss and four ties with nine games to go in the season.

Kilrich overcame a 3-1 deficit against third-place Air North, scoring the first of two power play goals with 51 seconds remaining in the game, and the second power play marker with less than a second on the clock – .8 to be exact.

In other oldtimer action, second-place Klondyke Dental pummelled AON 7-1, Yukon Inn defeated EDI 6-3 and Firth Rangers flattened Medicine Chest 6-1.

Shawn McLeod and Mike Sage led Yukon Inn, each scoring two goals and adding an assist while Bruce Williams scored once with two assists. Ernie Jamieson scored once and added an assist and Maxime Dugre-Sasseville recorded an assist for the Inn.

Bob Allison replied once for EDI and recorded as assist. Larry Park and Pat Tobler scored the other goals while Tony Clennett, Bill Bohmer, Johnny Sembsmoen and Ken Vickerman had one assist each.

The win put Yukon Inn in sole possession of fifth place, two points ahead of EDI.

A five-point night by Blayne Monahan – one goal and four assists – led the Firth Rangers, while Lance Bevilacqua added two goals. Single markers were recorded by Les Luciuk, Mike Rispin and Chris Lane, who also added an assist.

Bruce Demchuk, Matt Sills, Joel Witten, Derek Torgenson and Guy Morgan each had an assist.

Peter Johnston had the lone goal for Medicine Chest, unassisted.

Firth retains sole possession of fourth place.

Scoring summaries were not available for Kilrich-Air North and Klondyke Dental-AON games.
