Kilrich Building Centres are donating a significant amount of money to three upcoming sporting events in Whitehorse, to go along with the sponsorships they already have in the community.
Kilrich will become the premier sponsor for the 2019 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships and for the next three years will be the title sponsor for the Lights Out Yukon Invitational Basketball Tournament and the Yukon Native Hockey Tournament.
“We are a Yukon business,” said Scott MacDonald, senior sales and marketing manager at Kilrich. “We have had significant growth over the last five years and in that time we’ve had more opportunity to give money back to the community.”
MacDonald says Kilrich has been involved with the Yukon Native Hockey Tournament since 2009.
“We come and do a draw and give out noisemakers to the kids, we love being apart of the event, it’s a good community event,” said MacDonald. “There is something electric about the city at the time, there is some great hockey and it coincides with some nice weather.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to appreciate that tournament on different levels. I’ve been behind the scenes and seen how hard the board works. I’ve played in the tournament and I’ve been a fan at many fantastic games.”
As Kilrich continues to grow it wants to continue to grow with the community.
“The Lights Out Basketball Tournament is an example of that,” said MacDonald.
“We want that to be a bigger event, we want them to have more participants, more people to come from outside, and more youth to join the leagues, we see a lot of growth there.”
These are important events for the city and MacDonald says they just want to see them succeed.
“We are a Yukon based company and we want to be involved in the community,” said MacDonald. “These are big events and we want them to be successful. It’s important for everyone for these events to go well.”
The 2019 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships will take place at the CGC and Takhini Arena for two weeks in May.
The Lights Out Basketball Tournament will be held January 17.
The Yukon Native Hockey Tournament will take place over three days in March, also at the CGC and Takhini.
