Kilrich edges Klondyke Dental despite short bench

Kilrich jumped to within two points of first place in Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey action Thursday night and Tim Horton's continued its resurgence.

Kilrich jumped to within two points of first place in Whitehorse Oldtimer Hockey action Thursday night and Tim Horton's continued its resurgence.

Despite a short bench of just six skaters, Kilrich defeated Klondyke Dental 4-3 on the strength of two goals by Mike Knutson, a goal and a pair of assists from Rick Gingell, and a goal and an assist by Regis St. Pierre.

Sitting third in the league scoring race, Brian Boorse scored once and added an assist for Klondyke Dental. Ed Van Randen also recorded a goal and an assist and Gerry Rivest scored once.

Kilrich now moves into sole possession of second place, two points behind Yukon Inn, while Klondyke Dental remains stuck in the log jam in the middle of standings.

Tim Hortons 5, AON 3

Peter Johnson scored twice to lead the Tim Hortons offence while Phil Borgel and Lyle Dinn each scored once with an assist . Kerry Pettitt also tallied one.

Grants Lyons, Mark Pyke and Rick Smith replied for AON and Ken Vickerman contributed two assists.

With his two-point night, Johnson shares the third-place honours in the scoring race with Boorse. And with only one loss in their last five games, Tim Hortons has rejoined the log jam, albeit at the tail end of it.

Wednesday

Air North 3, Yukon Inn 2

While Air North maintained its steady climb in the standings of late, Yukon Inn remained locked in its recent stall, allowing Kilrich the opportunity to start knocking on the door for first-place honours in league standings.

Glen Heinbigner scored once and added an assist for Air North while Joel Witten and Jeff Hunston each scored singles.

Pat Tobler and Lawrence Ignace replied for Yukon Inn, both on assists from Chad Cowan.

Medicine Chest 6, Performance Centre 3

Blaine Demchuk scored twice and added an assist for Medicine Chest and Gord Petersen recorded a pair of goals. Tony Park scored once and contributed two assists, and Ron Billingsley scored once.

Mike Blower scored twice for the Turbos and Alain Pelletier scored once with an assist. Briar Young added two assists.

The loss drops Performance Centre out of the tie for second and into sole possession of third place.
