A missing goaltender, 15 goals and even a shootout were all highlights of Wednesday's lone contest in the Whitehorse Summer Hockey League.
It was anything but a typical game played at the Canada Games Centre between Cinderwood and Ketza, which was a re-match from earlier in the week.
Cinderwood won the previous game 6-5 on Monday, thanks in part to a late goal by Jay Glass with less than a minute remaining on the clock.
Wednesday's affair was even closer, needing a shootout to decide a winner.
However, this time around, the outcome was in Ketza's favour. The team won it by a 8-7 score.
The game began with Ketza having to play without goalie Mitch Heynen for nearly five minutes, which resulted in Cinderwood taking a quick 2-0 lead.
However, Heynen's arrival, which was greeted by cheers from both his bench and people in the stands, seemed to spark his team; especially after he made a beautiful sliding pad save to rob Cinderwood of its third goal.
From there the contest turned into a real barnburner. Ketza scored a pair in less than three minutes and then added four more before the period was over.
Cinderwood tried to keep up and finally were able to get one by Heynen, who looked unbeatable for the majority of the opening frame.
Some persistence on Cinderwood's part paid off and the team eventually lit him up for three goals, cutting into its deficit. The score was 6-5 entering into the final period.
Ketza goal scorers in the first period were Chris Kostenik, Joe Densmore, Evan Campbell, Burt Stephens, Reid Campbell and Alex McDougal.
The majority of Cinderwood's first period offence came from Ted Stephens and Kane Dawe, who each scored twice, while Dave Pearson chipped in the team's remaining goal.
Frustration on both teams boiled over in the second frame, resulting a few game misconducts and several penalties.
Cinderwood ended up taking advantage of the open space, tying the game up at 6-6. The goal was scored by Glass, who had a clear path to the net and ended up firing the puck between Heynen's legs.
Glass added one more goal, giving Cinderwood its first lead since just over the half-way point of the opening period.
What looked like it could easily be a repeat of Monday changed with a shot by Kostenik, who fired a quick wrist shot past a screened Steven Harlow. The goal went with less than two minutes remaining and ended an impressive second period shutout streak from Cinderwood's netminder.
Two more goals in the shootout sealed Ketza's win, which improved its record to 3-2. Cinderwood also sits at 3-2 after its most recent loss.
EBA (1-3) is set to take on Casa Loma (2-2) today in the final game of the regular season. The top two teams meet in the league's final, which will be played on Monday, while the two other teams will play for third place.
