Team Canada has played two games in the world junior hockey champions in the Edmonton bubble with another game slated for 4 p.m. today versus Switzerland.

Of course, we all know that the Yukon's Dylan Cozens is once again donning the Maple Leaf. Here is what he has done in the first two games.

Currently, Canada sits unbeaten atop of Group A. Also in their division is Finland, Slovakia, Germany, and Switzerland. The team's goals for/against is 19:3. The Fins also remain undefeated.

Dec. 27:

The second game of the tournament for Team Canada was against Slovakia where history was made before the opening puck-drop.

Cozens became the first Yukon-born player to wear the captain's C for Team Canada. Before the tournament began, Cozens was named an assistant captain along with Bowen Byram. Kirby Dach, the lone NHL player on the team got the C.

However, Dach was injured in a tune-up game and has been unable to suit up. Tournament rules state a team must have someone wearing the ā€œCā€ at all times, so, Cozens and Byram are alternating.

Canada defeated the Slovakians 3-1. Cozens picked up an assist on Philip Tomasino's third-period goal – which also proved to be the game-winner.

Dec. 26:

As has become custom, Team Canada opened the tournament on Boxing Day. Cozens did not disappoint in the tournament opener, giving the Yukon, and the rest of the country a belated Christmas gift.

Canada thumped Germany 16-2.

Cozens picked up three assists, on goals by Peyton Krebs and Alex Newhook's two, before the midway point of the second period.

Not done filling up the stat sheet, Cozens potted his first of the afternoon at 18:14 of the second. In the third, he picked up right where he left off. First, he netted a powerplay goal 37 seconds into the final stanza. Then, at 4:33, he completed the hat trick.

For his efforts, Cozens was named as Canada's player of the game.

Quick hits:

His offensive outburst has him currently as the top-scoring skater of the tournament, with three goals, four assists. Elias Florian of Germany is second in scoring with six points. Tomasino has five points.

Cozens is also second in face-off percentage, winning 75 per cent of his draws – it should be noted he has been playing on the wing and only taken 18 face-offs.

Anton Lundell of Finland is the faceoff leader, winning 79.41 per cent of his draws. He has taken 54.

@matt
re- "finally the Yukon has a Super Star"
That is going to hurt a lot of Yukon Athletes feelings. Because of our demographics it is less likely to succeed in team sports coming from the Yukon because of the level of available competition. However individual sports are a different story.

We have had many Athletes go to the Olympics, worlds and International level. Some that come to mind.

Weight Lifters
Wrestlers
Cyclist
Swimmers
CC Skiers
Shooters
Biathlon
DH Ski and Snowboard

Also we have had at least two Hockey players that have played in the NHL.
That being said Dylan is doing great and will be a great role model for Yukon kids in the future. But please don't disrespect and discount those that went before him. I am sure he wouldn't, because he knows how hard it is to succeed at this level.

What a pleasure it is watching this guy playing for the country he was born in, he is an elite player that has good puck handling skills & scores points with his hard work, great to see a Yukoner representing Team Canada, if he continues playing like this I can see Team Canada winning another Gold, Go Canada !!

Well done Mr. Cozens! Your star is shining brightly and it can be well seen here at home. We are proud of you and your accomplishments on the ice and also for making more people aware of the Yukon and the calibre of talent grown here.
Best of luck to you in the remaining series - we're all cheering for you.

One heck of a hockey player and young man. Good for him. Entire Yukon will be wearing Cozens jerseys soon! Shame Leafs didn't pick him up, hah!

The RR has been a tad dull, don't get me wrong. I love seeing the boys light the lamp but I really look forward to some meaningful competition and exciting games as the tournament shifts to the medal rounds.

Dylan is building up a nice war chest of mementos (Juniors Gold last year, MVP in this years opener, wearing the A then the C and racking up the points) it's a really nice foundation for when he eventually steps up to 'the show'.

Congratulations Dylan on a good start to the tournament. Enjoying following the games and your success in those games. Watched your interview on the national telecast and you did a great job. The family also looks well invested in following your progress. Enjoy the experience and good luck.

In addition to being a top notch hockey player, he appears to be a well spoken, polite and intelligent young man. How great it is to have people associate him with the Yukon.
