A couple of junior players helped Uniglobe Specialty Travel secure this year's Thursday Night Squash League title.
Both Kai Knorr and Kelly Panchyshyn played well beyond their years in Thursday's final against top ranked Sterling Insurance.
The two players each scored the maximum six points awarded in an individual match, helping Uniglobe to a convincing 20-11 victory.
Not only did Knorr and Panchyshyn score the majority of the team's points, they also did a great job shutting down their opponents.
Knorr limited Darrin Sinclair to scoring two points, while Panchyshyn won in three games against Amy Leach. Leach finished with one point for Sterling Insurance.
"We have a pretty solid team and I wasn't worried about Kai losing his games, he's a pretty good player," said Panchyshyn. "Amy is a really strong player, we are pretty equal usually, but I knew if I went in there and played hard I could probably take it in three."
This was both Knorr's and Panchyshyn's first season in the Thursday league, however both players also played in the junior league as well.
Panchyshyn said she joined the adult league to get more match experience.
"I think adult league is another step up from junior league, but it was almost a little more laid back," she said, adding, "Maybe it was just the time because I don't have to wake up so early."
Knorr also had a great first year in the adult league, which was highlighted by Thursday's win over Sinclair. He said that was the first time all season he was able to beat Sinclair.
"It feels good to be playing with adults and winning league," Knorr said. "Me and Kelly are so happy about it."
Knorr hopes to play in division one next year, which is the Tuesday Night Squash League, adding he was pleasantly surprised with how well things worked out this season.
Other scorers on Uniglobe Specialty Travel included Leonard Linklater, who chipped in six points and Tracy Pittman, who finished with two.
The remaining scorers on Sterling Insurance included Mark Beese, with six points and Will Parker, who contributed two.
EMCO 19, Northern Lights Optometry 12
EMCO won the battle for third place, thanks to a combined team effort.
Lara Trotter, Dallas Yeulett and Randi Cave each finished with six points, while Lisa Gudbranson scored the team's remaining point.
Andrew Zinck scored five points for Northern Lights Optometry, while Zoe Walker, Patti Flather and Loralee Martin made up the team's remaining seven points.
