Emily Nishikawa wasn't the only skier from the territory making headlines today.

Knute Johnsgaard and Dahria Beatty also found their names on the team set to represent Canada at the world championships in Italy later this month.

The junior and under-23 world championships will be hosted in Val di Fiemme, Italy Jan. 29 to Feb. 3.

Johnsgaard, 21, is a member of the Yukon Elite Squad.

He secured a spot on the U-23 World Championship team by skiing the "race of his life” at the Olympic trials Sunday, said Yukon ski coach Alain Masson.

The 30-km skiathlon race saw Johnsgaard and fellow U-23 skier Andy Shields cross the line together in a photo-finish for fifth.

Johnsgaard and Shields will be joined on the U-23 squad by Heidi Widmer, Olivia Bouffard-Nesbitt, Cendrine Browne, Patrick Stewart-Jones, and Sebastien Townsend.

Beatty, 19, is one of 10 skiers who will represent the country at the World Junior Championships.

Others include: Katherine Stewart-Jones, Anne-Marie Comeau, Frédérique Vézina, Sophie Carrier-Laforte, Scott Hill, Angus Foster, Benjamin Wilkinson-Zan, Ricardo Izquierdo-Bernier, and Alexis Dumas.

"I am so excited to be going back over to Europe for my third World Junior Championships after having just missed the qualification for them last season,” Beatty said in a statement on her personal website.

Skiing in the world championship qualifiers in Canmore last week, Beatty finished second in Sunday's 10-km skiathlon.

"Exactly what I needed to book my ticket to Italy,” she said. "More than anything, I am looking forward to heading to Europe for the next (five and a half) weeks to gain more international racing experience ... Thank you so much to everyone who has been there to support me and has believed.”

Beatty said she is excited to take to the trails with Team Canada.

"I can easily say that this is the strongest women's team I have ever been part of and I can't wait to see what happens on the world stage,” she said.
