Jim Brown is a man for the ages, his whole hearted approach to soccer in the Yukon has won him many admirers.

On Saturday, he showed his goal scoring skills with a brace that knocked Air North Rangers off the top of the perch replacing with his own KBS team, as they ran out 6-3 winners.

Forging into an early lead, Klondike Business Solutions were in control of the game, and were helped in their pursuit of victory when Air North’s keeper, Jan Aalt van den Hoorn, was sent off. From the resulting penalty KBS were able to take a 3-1 lead into half time.

KBS have found it difficult to keep a lead and when the Rangers scored in the first minute of the second half the headlines were being written about their demise. But, nobody told the colossus Brown who scored a cheeky goal to retain parity.

From then on KBS kept the ball away from Air North much to skipper Iain Breckenridge’s chagrin, who knows a thing or two about frustrating the opposition.

They were so desperate Breckenridge was sent up front to try and force the issue, but to no avail.

Other scorers for KBS were Matthias Hartman three and Mark Sebek, while Huy Nguyen two and Ciaran Connolly got the goals for the Rangers.

Jackson turns back the clock

Phil Jackson won the golden boot award at the turn of the century and he returned to those glory days with two excellent goals as he helped his Driving Force team to a comprehensive win over Yukon Brewing 6-3.

Driving Force has arguably the most balanced side in the league with power and strength in all positions.

Keith Maguire must be very happy with the team he has assembled, and will be a formidable opponent all season long.

Yukon Brewing have a glut of talented players themselves, but couldn’t impose their will on the game, as Jackson, Mark Chandler and Hector Lang all scored two goals for Driving Force, and were all over the opposition, throughout the game.

For the Brew, Justin Carre, Eric Murphy and Miles Hume all scored to show the potential they have, but on this occasion, it wasn’t enough for a win.

Yukon Info.com finally win

Danny Macdonald’s Yukon Info got their first win of the season at the sixth time of asking, as they easily beat Pepsi 6-1.

Info welcomed back Keith Welch and Gohar Hafeez into the heart of the defence and were rewarded by an almost perfect display. Gone was the feeling that as soon as you attacked the Info goal success was guaranteed, they played slick soccer based on a solid defence.

Hafeez even scored a goal to emphasize his importance to the team.

Another positive aspect was the display of Will Chetcuti, he has been the high point for the team in an otherwise disappointing season so far. Added to the fact that Derek Funk is back from a one-man tour of distilleries and restaurants of Western Canada, things are looking up for the Info.

For Pepsi, captain Mark O Brien’s day was made worse when he realised that he had boiled washed his shirt and when he put it on looked like he was auditioning as an extra for Baywatch.

Scorers for Yukon Info were, Macdonald, Hafeez, Michael Zuccarini, Chetcuti two and Funk. Fabian Glyka got a consolation for Pepsi.
