The Pepsi Softball Centre was transformed into a cultural mosaic Friday for the opening ceremonies at the eighth World Junior Men's Fast Pitch Championships.
The ceremony itself was short and sweet with all 12 countries parading out onto Field One at the Pepsi Softball Centre to the delight of a jammed pack stadium of onlookers.
"On behalf of the government of Canada and the Prime Minister of Canada, the members of parliament in Canada and all Canadians, we provide you the warmest possible welcome as an international cosmopolitan a multi-national country," said MP Larry Bagnell.
Countries came out in alphabetical order with the fans applauding and cheering from beginning to the very end.
Some of the more popular teams included Botswana, who came out smiling and waving to the crowd.
Mexico also was given a loud ovation, as some members of the team were decorated in sombreros and ponchos, but all seemed to be energized for the event.
A small, but vocal group of fans showed their support for the U.S. when the team was announced.
Of course the largest ovation was saved for the Canadians, who came out last, holding the flag high. Canada played the Czech Republic after the event and won the game 13-1.
